Sizing. A side table should sit within two inches of your sofa arm height — most sofa arms run 24 to 26 inches, so look for tables in that range. Console tables behind a sofa should stop just below the sofa back, usually 30 to 34 inches. Entryway consoles are typically 30 inches tall and 12 to 16 inches deep so they don't crowd a hallway.
