Soaking Tubs

A soaking tub is built for depth rather than length — water that covers the shoulders when you're seated, typically 15 to 22 inches of soaking depth against the 12 to 14 inches of a standard alcove tub. StudioLX carries freestanding, alcove and drop-in soaking tubs in acrylic and solid surface, from 54 to 72 inches.

Choosing a size. A 60-inch tub fits the standard American alcove and suits most people up to about 5'10". Taller bathers want 66 to 72 inches. Freestanding tubs need clearance on all sides — allow at least 4 inches to the wall for cleaning, more if you want it to read as a centerpiece.

Weight matters. A filled 60-gallon tub with a bather weighs roughly 700 pounds. Acrylic is light enough for most second-floor installations; cast iron and stone resin usually need the floor checked first.
